1. The War Begins

Citizens of Bashkortostan as well as the rest of Soviet people learnt that the war had begun at noon on 22nd of June 1941 from the speech of Vyacheslav Molotov, people's commissar for Foreign Affairs.

During the first days of the war people of all ages and occupations were applying to local offices of the Communistic party and Komsomol and to enlistment offices asking to be taken to the front. On the 22nd of June the Presidium of the Soviet Council adopted Orders on martial law in a number of republics and regions and mobilized all the bound born in 1905-1916 and draftees born in 1922-1923. Officials announced party and komsomol conscriptions to airborne forces, guard mortar units, army radio schools and central sniper courses.
