30. Rifle Division No. 214

Red Banner Kremenchug-Aleksandrovka Rifle Division No. 214 awarded with the Orders of Suvorov and Bogdan Khmelnitskiy was being formed in Bashkiria from the 22nd of November 1941 till 21st of June 1942.

The division participated in the Battle of Stalingrad as a part of the South-West Front.

The division veterans say, in the middle of August the Rifle Division No. 214 was withdrawn from the battle and sent to Kotluban.

Having forced 120-kilometre march on the 18th of August 1942 the division was ordered to gather near Panshino village before the dawn. In the morning on 19th of August the division got engaged in the battle and forced the opponent from the outlined territory.

Khokhlov’s regiment No. 780 showed their best in this combat. Major general Pushkin, deputy commander of the tank army No. 4 said that the rifle division No. 214 had saved the army near Panshino.

After defensive fighting they switched to the counter attack on the 22nd of November 1942. The combat aimed at elimination and siege of the enemy’ s formation. They retook dozens of settlements. On the 2nd of February 1943 they reached the Volga river.

The division helped to retake Kremenchug, Belgorod and Kharkov, They crossed the Dnipro river, forced the Nazi from Moldavia, Poland and Czechoslovakia.

The Rifle Division No. 214 finished the war in Liberets west from Prague. Nine members of the division were entitled as Heroes of the Soviet Union.
