On the first days of the Great Patriotic War hundreds of Komsomol members of the republic volunteered to go to the front. During the war over 120 thousand of Komsomol members from Bashkiria were fighting on different fronts. Bashkir ExCom of Komsomol conducted mobilization and 35 thousand of youngsters were trained as People's Militia. The Bashkir Cavalry Division only had about 500 Komsomol members. Bashkir Komsomol members were Alexander Matrosov, Musa Gareev, as well as Heroes of the Soviet Union Zubai Utyagulov, Aleksander Startsev, Marguba Syrltanova. Bashkir Komsomol members in the rear collected 13 326 000 roubles to build Komsomol of Bashkiria aviation squadron and 927 000 roubles to build Pioneer of Bashkiria tank column.
