35. Born in Bashkiria as Guerillas and Undergrounders in the Opponent’ s Rear

By the end of 1941 the Nazi rear had had over 2 thousand guerilla squads with total number of members over 90 thousand people. There were also battle groups. Guerillas made a great contribution in disruption of Hitler’s plan for “the brief war”.

Belarus became one of massive centres of the guerilla war. By early August 1941 there had already been 230 combat groups and guerilla squads with the membership over 10 thousand people.

Large Belarus guerilla movement contained hundreds of brave sons of Soviet Bashkiria.They were vigorously fighting against the suppression.

Dayan Murzin’s guerilla squad was acting in Slovakia and Moravia, near the Beskids. During the battles from October 1944 till May 1945 their formation eliminated 5000 enemies, disrupted 60 railway trains, exploded 86 bridges and conducted one hundred other war operations.

Dayan Murzin was awarded with various orders of the Soviet Union, was entitled as a National Hero of Czechoslovakia, an Honorary Citizen of sixteen cities in Czechoslovakia and an Honorary Citizen of Ufa.

Vafa Akhmadulin was an active participant of Slovakia National Rebellion and a legendary commander of Vysokiye Tatry guerilla squad.

During a while from September 1944 till February 1945 guerrilla squads conducted 36 combat operation. They succeeded thanks to the skilled commander, stiff terrain and locals’ support. The squad’s actions neutralized three full regiments of the Wehrmacht.

Poland also had guerilla movement. The most famous guerilla squad participant was A. Kuznetsov, an aircraft pilot. During two years Italian guerilla was struggling led by A. Kolyaskin. Muzhtaba Shagiev supported the guerilla war in France. There was an underground guerilla squad even in Buchenwald. The unit was led by Bakiy Nazirov, the Head of the rebellion in Buchenwald.

In September-October 1941 the officials launched the first enlistment campaign for the airborne forces among volunteers from Komsomol. The first campaign took 2 775 volunteers from Bashkiria to enter them in the airborne forces.

A big group of paratroopers from Bashkiria were transported to the Nazi’s rear in Karelia. Ex-komsomol members took part in many battles.
