Supreme High Command General Headquarters obliged Leningrad, the First and Third Baltic fronts to destroy the northern group of the opponent and to retake the Baltic.

For the first time they significantly advanced west by 200 kilometres in July and August 1944. They managed to drive the Nazi away from most of Lietuva, Lithuania and Estonia. Vilnius was retaken on the 13th of July.

On the 22nd of September 1944 Soviet troops pushed a part of Nazi army to the sea and cut them from East Prussia.

Soldiers from Bashkiria were restlessly fighting on the ground, in the air and on ships of the Baltic Fleet.

By the beginning of the war the Red Banner Baltic Fleet was the strongest one having 2 battleships, 2 cruisers, 2 flotilla leaders, 17 destroyers, 67 torpedo boats, 71 submarines and other ships. The coast guard was armed with fixed artillery and deck guns up to 305 mm including 109 batteries of 424 guns for Tallinn and Riga.
